RESCUE: Removal man saved us all

I would like to say a big thank-you to Sheldon Egdell, of Brian and Sons Removals and Storage, for rescuing our party of cyclists, who were stranded in a snow storm in Alnwick on Thursday evening (April 28).

Seven of us were planning to cycle from Kelso to Alnmouth as part of a three-day trip, but the weather caught us out and, drenched by rain and sleet, which then turned to heavy snow, we had taken refuge in the Morrisons’ store in Alnwick while we tried to work out how to travel the last few miles.

Some of our group were feeling ill due to the cold and we were unable to cycle any further because of the dangerous weather conditions, not to mention our frozen state.

Buses and taxis were not an option as there was no way they could transport our five bikes, plus a tandem.

We spotted Mr Egdell’s van and asked him for help.

He was only too happy to assist, taking us and our bikes to our accommodation in Alnmouth, where we able to get dry and warm.

Our situation could easily have taken a turn for the worse had Mr Egdell not helped us out.

We will be eternally grateful for his assistance.
