FESTIVAL: Disappointed by offering

Where is the ‘International’? Where’s the colour, the fun, the spectacle, the atmosphere?

One couple who have come from Norfolk for the festival for many years came up especially this week. “We’ve come to see the music festival, but we can’t find where it is,” they said. They were in the Market Square at the time.

Another visitor asked, “How long has this singer been on the stage? It’s so depressing”.

We all love the local, very talented, musicians, but they can be seen/listened to every week in one of the local pubs. The young dancers were lovely, but not what we have all come to see.

Even the listed ‘foreign’ groups are from Newcastle and Manchester, not exactly international.

If this is the best Alnwick can offer then it is no longer an international music festival, it’s a music festival.

Hopefully things will liven up as the week goes on.
