Election: Mandate to act on priorities

I would like to take this opportunity to thank your readers for the support they gave me in the recent Police & Crime Commissioner election.

It was rewarding to see the turnout double to more than 32 per cent and I was honoured to receive more than 180,000 votes – this result has given me an increased mandate to ensure that Northumbria Police continues to deliver the priorities that are important to you.

Over the next few months I will be out and about in local communities, ensuring that the priorities you set in the Police and Crime Plan in 2013 for Northumbria Police are relevant today - I want you to be part of it. You can be assured that our work in tackling anti-social behaviour, ensuring victims of crime are at the heart of everything we do and remaining a leader in tackling violence against women and girls will continue.

The communities that are served by the Northumberland Gazette are worthy of the greatest effort and I will continue to stand up for Northumbria and ensure it continues to remain one of the safest places in the country to live and work.
