Northumberland-trained racehorse Carlito Brigante is out of tomorrow’s Grand National.

Trainer Karen McLintock, who was due to saddle her first runner in the world’s greatest steeplechase, confirmed that the horse was slightly lame this morning.

McLintock, who trains at the Byerley Stud at Ingoe, south west of Belsay, said it was heartbreaking to miss out.

It means the field for the Crabbie’s Grand National is down to 39, the first time since 2004 that there has not been a field of 40 for the race.

With the deadline for introducing reserves to the race having passed, it is too late for the first on the reserve list, Baileys Concerto, to join.
