Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spider-Man and Minions are all expected at a wedding this weekend, while Superman will be the ring bearer.

It might not be your usual guest list, but Hadston couple Nicola Turnbull, 28, and Scott Embleton, 30, can’t wait to celebrate their big day in the company of a whole host of colourful characters.

That’s because the loved-up pair are having a fancy-dress ceremony when they tie the knot on Saturday at St John the Divine Church, Chevington.

In what is sure to be an eye-catching affair, the children attending the event are being invited to dress-up in a superhero or Disney theme.

Not only do the happy couple think it will add to the fun factor of the occasion, but they are also hoping the fancy-dress idea will raise crucial funds to help with the repair of the church’s bell, which is broken and out of use.

Nicola said: “The fancy-dress wedding for the children was mine and Scott’s idea. I don’t like children getting left out at weddings, so the ones that are dressed up and have got permission will be going into the church before I go in.

“We thought it would be fun for the kids and we thought it would be a great way to raise money for the church bell, as we are hoping for donations to go towards it.

“There will be about 15 to 20 children on the day and some of the characters that are set to be attending include Minions and Turtles.”

Nicola’s six-year-old son Jack, aka Superman on the day, will be ring bearer. Her daughter Chloe, three, and Scott’s little girl Lexi, four, will also dress up.” Nicola said: “They are excited and can’t wait to put on their costumes.”
