North Sunderland WI, Meeting

The autumn October gathering of North Sunderland and Seahouses WI commenced with Mrs Judith Stephenson opening the meeting. A total of 26 members were present and Mrs Stephenson welcomed them, introducing Margaret Smith for the evening.

This young lady introduced us to the world of decorating cupcakes.

She had brought along with her a good number of small cakes, plus bags of coloured icing, tubs of butter icing and a big box of small cubes of coloured marshmallows.

There followed some hilarious efforts, some very good indeed, featuring Miss Piggy and Shaun the Sheep.

The coloured icing was great for garden designs. Margaret Smith was adept at making small shapes of flowers, leaves, ears and heads.

The winners were Nora Mileham and Sandra MacFarlane.

The vote of thanks was given by Mrs Elizabeth Fortune as it had certainly been an hour of huge entertainment.

Mrs S Caskey won the raffle and Mrs Edmison won the cupcake prize. Tea and biscuits were then devoured.

Following on from these activities, Mrs MacFarlane read out the minutes of the previous meeting. These were accepted.

Our treasurer gave us her report also.

Mrs Eileen Braidford reported that our last pub lunch at the Apple Inn, Lucker, had been well attended and our next pub lunch will be at Warenford on October 29, open to everybody.

Mrs Peggy Wood is organising the coach to take members to the Abbey for carols on Thursday, December 15. The coach will start at Belford.

Future dates for your diary include a Caribbean experience at Stannington Village Hall on November 3, and a sugar flower workshop follow-up at Cresswell House on November 7, with Peril at Cresswell House on November 9.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 1, when we will have Ms Helen Rogers talking to us regarding the RNIB.

Our meetings are always interesting and lively, with refreshments, so please do come along and join us. New members are always welcome.
