It wasn’t just a big day for Lady Melissa on Saturday, but also for Alnwick youngster Niamh Cullen, who was one of the bridesmaids dressed as a woodland nymph.
The six-year-old’s family look after the Duchess’s dog Fuzzy on occasion and Niamh was asked to carry out the special role, while the rest of the family – dad Andy, mum Tracy and brother Cameron, seven – were guests.
Tracy said: “It was really, really exciting. She was a bit overwhelmed at the rehearsal, but she did brilliantly and took it all in her stride on the day.
“We are all really proud of her.”
And the rest of the family enjoyed being part of such a grand occasion too.
“We feel really privileged to have been able to attend the day,” said Tracy. “The whole day was fantastic and Missy looked gorgeous.
“We all found it exciting and Cameron particularly found it exciting being able to wave to his friends from school.
“He was also excited to wear a kilt with his dad.
“He wasn’t really fazed by walking through the crowds and took it in his stride.”
While her brother was pleased with his kilt, Niamh was happy that she was allowed to keep her dress, which she took into school this week to show everyone.
Tracy said: “We are going to do a keepsake for her with things like invitations, articles from the newspapers and photos so she can look back.
“It’s something that she will remember for the restof her life. It’s nice because at six, I don’t think she’s too little to remember.”
