A new supermarket in a north Northumberland town, which is due to open this summer, has started advertising jobs.

Earlier this week, discount supermarket chain Aldi started recruiting for its forthcoming Alnwick store, which is set to open on South Road later this year.

The international company is advertising for a range of roles – assistant store manager, deputy store manager, store assistant, stock assistant and caretaker – via Jobcentre Plus and the online Universal Jobmatch site.

Northumberland Estates was given planning permission for an Aldi supermarket alongside a Majestic Wines store at the former Willis site, which had been derelict for five years, in February last year. Aldi coming to the town was said to represent a £4million investment for the town and would create around 30 jobs.

Last month, the firm confirmed that it is targeting a summer 2015 opening date, after building work started in December. Clearance work at the site had begun in July last year.
