A major summer community clean-up is taking place in three villages this weekend.

The event is being staged on Saturday from 10am to 11.30am in Longhoughton, Boulmer and Howick.

As part of the three-village challenge, residents are being encouraged to see how many bags of litter they can collect in 90 minutes.

The event has been organised by Longhoughton Parish Council and children’s prizes are available for the most unusual object found.

Anyone interested should meet at 10am at either Howick Village Hall, the Spar car park in Longhoughton or Boulmer car park.

Pickers, bags and gloves will be supplied, with the litter-picking equipment coming from Northumberland County Council, while McDonald’s is sponsoring doughnuts and drinks.
