Man killed in A697 crash is named

The man who was killed in a two-vehicle collision on the A697 in Northumberland on Wednesday has been named by police.

Darren Warnes, 46, of Church Street, Lady Bank, Cupar, in Fife, Scotland, was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash, which happened a-quarter-of-a-mile south of the New Moor House crossroads, near Longframlington.

The driver of the second car, a 45-year-old man, and a woman passenger were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

The incident happened at around 12.15pm. Police closed the road between the crossroads and Longframlington for more than four hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses and asking any motorists in the area at the time of the collision to get in contact.
