A Wooler man has been fined £95 after head-butting his ex-girlfriend.
Cameron Thomson, 19, of Oliver Road, admitted assaulting Kim Scott, leaving her with a sore head and nose.
The pair, who have a one-year-old son together, were in a relationship at the time of the offence but have subsequently split up.
Berwick Magistrates’ Court heard that in the early hours of July 7, the victim was woken by Thomson who wanted to come into the house. After letting him in, Thomson started making accusations and wanted to search the house to see if there were any men there.
James Long, prosecuting, said: “He went upstairs but there was nobody there. When he came down he still appeared annoyed and grabs her by the arm.
“She breaks free and he goes into the kitchen. She was in the hallway. He then rushes out of the kitchen, pushes her backwards and she hits her head on the banister. His head catches her nose.”
Mr Long said that it had, in effect, been a head-butt, but it was accepted that it was the momentum of the push that forced Thomson forward.
Thomson told police that he wasn’t aware his head had hit the victim’s nose but said this could have happened when he pushed her.
A letter from Ms Scott to the magistrates said that Thomson was ‘not all bad’ and that she ‘used to hit him too’ when she ‘couldn’t get my own way’.
He also has to pay £85 court costs and £15 victim surcharge.
