A workman has suffered serious injuries after falling through the roof of Morpeth’s Riverside Leisure Centre today.
Emergency services were called to the accident at the back of the New Market building just after 9am.

The man, who worked for Esh Facilities, had been carrying out routine maintenance work to refurbish the roof of the centre when he fell through.
Six appliances from the North East Ambulance Service were deployed, along with police.
A helicopter from the Great North Air Ambulance Service landed on the bowling green in Carlisle Park and flew the injured workman to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
Another person was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.
The accident has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive and safety specialists from Esh headed immediately to the site to begin their own investigation into the circumstances.
An Esh Facilities spokesman said: “Very sadly an accident took place at Morpeth leisure centre during work being carried out on a roof repair.
“We are very concerned for the worker involved and are in touch with those caring for him. Our sincere thoughts and best wishes are with him and his family.
“We are carrying out a thorough investigation of the actual events and circumstances surrounding this incident.
“We take all health-and-safety matters extremely seriously. We have an exemplary health and safety record, and our workforce is fully trained and accredited by all the necessary bodies.
“The Health and Safety Executive is also carrying out an investigation and we are fully complying with its enquiries, which we understand will carry forward into next week.”
A spokesman for Northumberland County Council, which is responsible for the leisure centre, said: “We are aware of an accident involving a workman at Morpeth Leisure Centre and the Health and Safety Executive are currently investigating the circumstances.
“We are liaising with the principal contractor Esh Facilities, and our thoughts are with the injured man.”
