Man airlifted to hospital after crash in Northumberland

A man was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a road collision in Northumberland yesterday.

The patient, in his 50s, was trapped in a car after a crash just to the east of Newbrough, in the west of the county.

The Great North Air Ambulance was called to the scene at noon to help the North East Ambulance Service. The man was assessed on scene by the paramedic and doctor team before he was placed in an induced coma and given blood and plasma at the roadside.

The patient had suffered life-threatening injuries to his head, chest, pelvis and both legs and was flown to the RVI in Newcastle, where he arrived in a critical condition after a 15-minute flight.
