Crucial repair work, costing more than half-a-million pounds, has started at Amble’s flood-damaged harbour, battered by the deluge in 2008.

The aim of the project is to stabilise the damaged quay, provide extra berthing facilities, improve the look of the area and allow unhindered access so that people can walk along the wooden South Jetty and around to the South Pier.

Demolition work has started at the former Northumberland Foods factory in Amble.
