Traders in Alnwick’s Castle Quarter are launching a Christmas loyalty raffle-prize initiative, worth £300, as part of the town’s efforts on Small Business Saturday tomorrow.

Small Business Saturday is a grass-roots campaign taking place on the first Saturday to encourage shoppers to think and spend local.

Business representatives from the Castle Quarter – a collection of independent retailers, service providers, pubs and cafés primarily based in Narrowgate, north Fenkle Street, Pottergate, Bow Alley and Bailiffgate – have teamed up to start the Christmas loyalty scheme.

The initiative, starting on Saturday and running until Christmas Eve, encourages shoppers to spend £10 or more in any six of the 12 Castle Quarter shops participating. Those taking part are Bari Tea Brewery; Hotspur 1364; Marilyn & Melrose; Grannies; Regram Runway; The Dirty Bottles; Capella Hair Design; Specially For You; Seasons of Alnwick; Strawberry Lounge; Smile Health; The Linen Cupboard.

When £10 or more is spent in a different shop, a stamp will be added to a coupon, available from participating businesses or via castlequar ter.wordpress.com.

Participating shops have each donated to a hamper prize worth a total of £300 and cards with a stamp from six different businesses will be entered into the prize draw.

Completed coupons must be returned by noon on January 7, 2016, to either Bari Tea Brewery or Marilyn & Melrose, both on Narrowgate. For more information, including terms and conditions, visit castlequarter.wordpress.com

Alnwick’s efforts on Small Business Saturday will coincide with the town’s Christmas Fair, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday.

This year, each business with special promotions will have red balloons hanging outside their front door and Santa and an elf will go around the town promoting the deals.

There will also be music around the town and leaflets featuring some of the special offers available over the weekend and during the festive season. Judging for a best-dressed Christmas window takes place the following weekend and the top three business will receive a cash prize.
