Longhoughton and Boulmer WI met at Westfield Park in October on a beautiful night with a full moon.
We could not have wished for a clearer sky as Adrian Janetta was our speaker and his subject was The Moon.
He had brought one of his large telescopes and after describing the surfaces of the moon, its craters, deserts and seas, we learnt how it rules the tides with its magical pull. We all were able to view the moon in all its shining glory. Amazing and very beautiful.
Thank you Adrian for another spell-binding glimpse into the night sky. Then, back to Earth and monthly business. The car boot sale was a success but we still need to boost our funds.
We decided to have a sales table each month, as well as books. Swishing, clothes exchanging, is a popular, fun night and we hope to host one in the spring. A St Patrick’s night supper with entertainment is in the diary for March.
We have two dates at the Playhouse for film nights and invitations to Brizlee for a musical evening and Alnwick Central on November 13. Our first domino match, I’m sorry to say, was our last – Brizlee won by two points . We had a very enjoyable afternoon and wish them good luck in the next round.
The competition, a harvest hat, was won by Pat Forster.
The next meeting will be held on November4 at Westfield Park. The Western Front will be our topic for the night and the competition is any war item. Sorry, no room for tanks.
