Lock it or lose it, residents warned

POLICE are urging residents in Northumberland to lock their homes and protect their car keys after three vehicles were stolen while parked outside their owners’ homes.

On two occasions the thieves sneaked into properties and stole the keys before taking the vehicles, while in the third incident, the culprits stole a car after finding the keys left inside it.

The incidents happened in the south and west of the county earlier this week and Northumberland Area Command Chief Inspector Peter Reeve said they should ‘act as a warning and a reminder to all about the importance of home security and protecting your property’.

He added: “Failure to ensure that your home and car are properly secured could have an impact on any insurance claims should you suffer a crime – so do everything you can to keep criminals out this Christmas.”
