Four members of Alnwick District Swimming and Lifesaving Club joined more than 250 competitors on Blyth beach last Saturday to battle it out in the annual Lifeguard Swimming Festival.
Challengers were required to compete in three beach-based events, two ocean races and a surf swim. On land, their running, throwing and rescue skills were tested and in the sea they competed in wading, boarding and swimming races.
The young Alnwick members, pictured, fared well. Millie Breese won the overall trophy in the 5-8 age group.
Max Breese and Ollie Telfer were third and first in the 9-11 category.
Finlay Telfer was the fourth member of the team and together they finished seventh place in the overall club classification.
The Alnwick club meets each week at the pool of the town’s Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre, teaching a range of skills to adults and children.
