Former World Boxing Champion Glenn McCrory is backing Northumberland County Council and asking people to pass on the message about the need for more adopters for North East children, particularly sibling groups and school age children.

The call comes ahead of National Adoption week, which begins this year on Monday 5 November.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant and Sky presenter Glenn McCrory, said: “This is a topic that is close to my heart, as my parents fostered, and also adopted my late brother David. I hope people can help to spread the word, and perhaps help someone decide to take the first step towards adoption and to make a real difference in children’s lives.”

Councillor Lesley Rickerby, executive member for children and young people at Northumberland County Council, said: “This National Adoption Week we are promoting our next adoption information evening, which is in Morpeth on 28 November. People can come along and find out more about the process and meet some of our families, as well as the rest of the adoption team.

“If you’re not thinking about adoption, you could help local children waiting for adoption indirectly by passing on the message. The more people are aware of the need for families for our waiting children the better chance there is of matching. Posters are available from our website for community groups and organisations that may have room on a noticeboard to display them.”

“We are looking for single people and couples to come forward from around Northumberland and the North East, particularly Berwick, Alnwick, Tynedale and Tyne and Wear. We are also seeking families who have older children still living at home who may be looking to expand their family through adoption too.”
