Work starts on village

Work has started on Amble’s ambitious Harbour Village project, with contractors now on site.

The village will comprise 15 new small business huts and a seafood centre.

It is part of the £2.5million scheme to establish a unique selling point for Amble as the seafood town, which has been drawn up by Northumberland County Council in partnership with Amble Development Trust, Amble Town Council, business representatives and the Amble community.

Julia Aston, of the development trust, said: “It is an exciting time. There is a real buzz around the town.”

The wider project includes the creation of a new Waterside Promenade linking the harbour, marina area and Braid – in turn connecting through to the Sustrans Cycle Route.

It also includes an improvement at Leazes Street of the physical connection between the Town Square and Harbour Village and other areas.
