Witness appeal over fatal crash on A1

Three vehicle crash on the A1 near Felton on Monday November 12th.

Police are appealing for information after a fatal three-vehicle crash on the A1 near to Felton this morning.

The driver of a VW van was taken to the RVI by air ambulance and subsequently died as a result of his injuries.

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A BMW and a Citroen car were also involved in the collision, which occurred on the northbound stretch of the road at 7.43am.

A passenger in the VW van was taken to Wansbeck General Hospital with injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The driver of the BMW suffered minor injuries while the driver of the Citroen was not injured.

A section of the A1 was closed in both directions for around five hours to allow for collision investigation to take place.

Anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the collision is asked to contact motor patrols on 101 ext 69191.
