Weather takes its toll on bridge work

The deck of the road bridge across the River Coquet in Rothbury is being completed, although the weather has been hampering key parts of the work, along with technical difficulties.

English Heritage has agreed that an informationstone can be included. A completion date has been given for November, with an official opening, before the bridge returns to a two-way system at Bridge Street, where Northumbrian Water are to carry out future works.

The B6344 will also be closed by a traffic order, from October 27 to November 4, to allow for the reconstruction of Dunkirk Bridge just outside Rothbury.

Until now, it has been supported with concrete blocks because of damage. An agreement was reached between Northumberland County Council, the National Trust and the Armstrong Estate.
