Village sport facility’s new lease of life

Coquetdale Swimming and Fitness Centre

Coquetdale Swimming and Fitness Centre

A Rothbury leisure facility has been relaunched, with a new name, new classes and additional staff on hand in the gym throughout the week.

The building, next to Dr Thomlinson Middle School, which contains a 13.5metre pool and fitness gym, adopted the title of Coquetdale Swimming and Fitness Centre when the gym extension was added in 2008.

But after feedback from residents and a survey on how people refer to the building five years on, the centre will now be named Rothbury Pool & Gym.

It is managed by North Country Leisure which has been working with a sub-group of local board members and staff to make some fundamental changes in response to feedback gathered.

Coun Steven Bridgett has also made a donation to the centre.

Qualified fitness staff are now available in the gym.

The centre opening times have been simplified, with the pool and gym now open 9am to 8.30pm, Mondays to Thursdays, and 8am to 1pm at weekends. The centre will remain closed on Fridays.

The Healthy Life session, catering for anyone worried about a medical condition or returning to exercise after not being active for a some time, will continue in the gym on Tuesdays, 2pm to 4pm.

New sessions taking place at the centre include aquafit in the pool (Mondays, 7.30pm to 8.15pm, and Wednesdays, 9.30am to 10.15am) and Super Circuits in the gym (Tuesdays, 6.30pm to 7.15pm, and Thursdays, noon to 12.45pm).

New Active Life classes, for those looking for gentle exercise, will take place in the gym (Mondays, 3pm to 5pm, and Thursdays, 10am to noon).

The pool is available for private bookings from 1pm to 3pm at weekends. It is also advised to check the swimming timetable before visiting for general swim times.
