Village hotel changes hands

The 19th century Coquetvale Hotel in Rothbury has been sold.

The hotel, which had an asking price of £795,000, has been bought by Vivid Hotels. It has 14 bedrooms, a terrace, a public bar and restaurant and currently caters for weddings and other functions.

Seller Lee Pattison, who has many years of experience in the hospitality industry, bought the hotel in 2013.

He said: “We have spent three years turning a struggling hotel into the successful business it is today. This includes increasing occupancy and room rates whilst also improving the aesthetics of the building, such as an upgrade of the bedrooms and public areas and a replacement of all the existing windows.

“I am looking to take a step back to focus on my hospitality consultancy business and to spend time with my family.”

A spokesman for Vivid Hotels said: “The hotel has seen recent investment and improvement and our ambition is to continue that process to realise the hotel’s full potential through further investment, operational excellence and outstanding customer service.”

The hotel was sold by Christie & Co, which is also handling the sale of the Grade II-listed Warkworth House Hotel in Warkworth.

The 14-bedroom hotel, which boasts a staircase from the London home of Queen Caroline of Brunswick, second wife of King George IV, has a restaurant, a residents’ lounge and a public bar. Included in the £895,000 asking price is a two-bedroomed cottage.

Sandra Thomas and Theresa Collins bought the hotel in 2012 and have invested heavily on its refurbishment.
