An Alnwick woman has completed a Sport Relief challenge after swimming 2.5k – at the age of 69.

Not only did Jean Finlday, of West Acres, complete the Swimathon, at Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre, this morning, but she also beat her estimated time by three minutes, and did all 100 lengths front crawl, with tumble turns at either end.

And when she came to finish her last length there was a huge round of applause and cheers of delights from onlookers, who said they felt inspired by her efforts.
