Victim dies following assault

The victim of an assault, in which a Hadston man is allegedly involved, died this morning.

Kenneth Brough, 65, of Sycamore Street, Lemington, Newcastle, suffered a serious head injury in the attack outside the Beehive pub, in the High Bridge area of the city on January 18. He died in hospital in the early hours of this morning.

Officers made arrests on the night of the assault which resulted in one man being charged.

Sean Lee Sillet, 20, of Bondicar Road, Hadston, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm and appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on, January 30.

A 57-year-old man also arrested, on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, remains on police bail.

Police are continuing to ask for any witnesses to the assault to come forward as inquiries continue.
