Turbine plans put in for Thropton farm

Plans have been put forward to erect a single wind turbine on land at Thropton.

The 27.1-metre to blade tip structure is proposed to supply renewable energy to Raburn Cottage and its smallholding on Physic Lane in the village.

It is sited 300 metres away from the property and will provide 20kW of power.

Pre-application advice was sought from Northumberland County Council for a bigger, medium-scale turbine, but potential concerns regarding it meant a smaller size was applied for.

In a planning statement it says that the applicants, JP & RM Henry, ‘strive to be as environmentally sustainable as possible on their smallholding’.

And it adds: “The proposed wind turbine would reduce the smallholding’s reliance on fossil-fuel based electricity, help to offset its carbon footprint relating to energy and fertiliser use and take advantage of the good wind speeds at the site.”
