Alnwick’s police inspector has described the past year as one of the toughest for the force in his 26 years of service, but also highlighted a number of positives.

Insp Paul Truscott told last week’s meeting of Alnwick Town Council that the police were turning a corner in the Alnwick sector, which also covers Amble, Rothbury and the surrounding villages, while paying tribute to the support received from a number of partner organisations.

He said that in November last year, crime was up 28 per cent on the previous year, but that now it had dropped to being up eight per cent.
