Wooler has a new parish councillor, following a by-election which took place last Thursday.
The poll was a straight fight between Conservative Michael Aitchison and Labour’s Joyce Guthrie and saw Michael come out on top.
The turnout was just under 35 per cent and Mr Aitchison won by about two votes to one in a ward which also has a Conservative county councillor.
In pre-election material, Mr Aitchison campaigned on three main issues – ensuring the protection of subsidised bus services, encouraging the development of affordable homes to rent in areas of the town where people want to live and improving road and pavement maintenance.
He also highlighted the need for more facilities for younger people in the village as well as for the former Ferguson’s Yard site to be redeveloped.
Mr Aitchison’s arrival on the council takes its membership back up to a full complement of 10.
