The public are the eyes and ears
The UK Border Agency’s head in the North East has underlined how they rely on the public to provide information.
“We do have officers whose job it is to collect information, but usually their activities are started by information from the public,” said Wallace Wilson, manager of the Northumbria Local Immigration Team.
“The more detailed the information that we get the more helpful it is.
“If we get something very vague that’s something we would look into but the more information we get the better.”
And rural north Northumberland is just as likely to be the focus of an operation as the urban areas of Tyneside.
“We have teams covering the whole region from Berwick to north Yorkshire,” said Mr Wilson.
“Northumberland is just as likely to receive a visit as anywhere in Newcastle, or anywhere else.”
