A showcase of Northumbrian produce will be on the menu this evening, to promote a new venture at an Alnwick pub.

The Three Wise Monkeys, on Fenkle Street, is set to launch Eat No Evil – a regular dining experience featuring locally-sourced food, accompanied by local music.

And to kick-start the initiative, the venue is hosting a special preview night tonight, starting from 7pm.

A taster menu, including local seafood, game casserole and haggis, will be available, priced £10.

Pub owner Justin Pringle has teamed up with Emma Whittingham – author of the book Game On, which features game recipes from Northumberland – as well other local food producers.

Emma said: “The event has been inspired by the success of Alnwick Food Festival.

“We felt that there was a real need for good, honest Northumbrian comfort food.

“Northumberland is a boon for foodies.

“Some of the best food is on our doorstep – seasonal game such as prize venison and rabbit as well as a wide variety of fresh local produce.

“Hopefully we will be able to promote local food, especially things like game.

“We really need people’s support on this, so come along and join us and enjoy local food.”

Saturday’s preview evening will be attended by local food producers and be complemented by beers from Alnwick Brewery Company and Champagne cocktails.

Justin is then aiming to hold two Eat No Evil evenings a week, starting from Friday, November 2.

“We want as much constructive feedback as we can get from the taster night and we will build from there.

“This is the next phase of the business where we do food upstairs.

“To start with we will do two nights a week but then next year, the plan will be to turn it into an every-night thing and then take it to other locations around Northumberland.

“There is a real demand for local produce and this is a local-food campaign.

“We are aiming to do good local food, maintaining the core values, but at a good price.

“This is a coming together of like-minded people, not only Emma and me, but also the food producers and the people who are passionate about local food.”
