Talks are ongoing about the future use of a derelict former factory site in Amble.
Northumberland County Council has said that it is trying to identify viable options for land on Coquet Enterprise Park, which was previously the home of Northumberland Foods.
The premises was demolished earlier this year.
A county council spokeswoman said: “We are pleased to have been able to fund the demolition of the buildings and cleaning up of the site, which has made a significant improvement to a key gateway site for the town.
“We are in discussions with Arch, the Northumberland Development Company, to identify future uses which will benefit the local economy.”
The factory closed in March 2011, and around 80 people were made redundant, bringing the number of jobs lost there to more than 200.
The premises remained empty for nearly two years, during which time there were calls to knock it down.
The boarded-up factory became a magnet for crime and anti-social behaviour and was branded an eyesore.
Bulldozers moved in earlier this year to carry out the demolition. There was a fire at the site during this time.
