Support at hand for hearing problems

Research shows that 50 per cent of the population have significant age-related hearing loss by the time they reach 50.

Andrew Griffin, of Shilbottle, is an active member of Action on Hearing Loss and fully aware of the problems of unwelcome deafness.

The retired lecturer set up Alnwick Hearing Support two years ago and the group meets at St Paul’s Court on the last Wednesday of each month, when like-minded members can discuss the latest news on hearing-related issues.

The meetings are from 2pm to 4pm and on January 30, the topic will be Communication and Subtitling. All welcome.

Andrew is also an advocate for lip-reading and last autumn he attended a 10-week course at the Lindisfarne Centre in Alnwick.

Lip-reading classes start again on Wednesday, January 16, at the centre from 9.30am to noon.
