Students have designs on a facelift for disused pool

Amble High school students are to use their design skills to brighten up a disused paddling pool at Amble.

They will create a mural there for the town council to enhance the area before the pool area is revamped.

Coun Robert Arckless said: “I think getting students involved could be really beneficial.

“To me it’s about getting some ownership from them for this.”

Meanwhile, a planter celebrating 2012 as Olympic and Jubilee year will be sited on the approach to Amble to welcome visitors.

Town councillors voted by six-two for a position on Rotary Way, though outside the town boundary, so the planter could make a good impression on passers-by.

Coun Jane Dargue said: “If we don’t actually have something that shows we are a smart town, then we lose.”
