Strip off and jump in

Hundreds of brave bathers are being urged to ditch their clothes and their inhibitions to raise money for charity in a mass skinny dip.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, September 22, at sunrise on the National Trust-owned stretch of coastline at Druridge Bay.

It is being organised by Jacqueline Higginson and partner Mark Bushell, who hope to raise more than £2,000 for the mental health charity MIND.

Jacqueline, who took part in a similar world record event on the National Trust’s Rhossili beach in Wales in 2011, which raised £12,000 for the National Trust and Marie Curie Cancer Care, wanted to repeat the experience while doing something for a good cause.

“Following on from my beautiful skinny dip experience in Rhossili Bay, which made it into the Guinness Book of World Records, I decided to recreate it up north and am keen to hear from anyone interested in taking part,” she said.

“To cover the cost of insurance we’re suggesting a registration fee of £10 and are encouraging everyone to use the opportunity to raise money for charity.”

Bathers interested in taking part will be asked to gather on the beach before sunrise and get at least waist deep in the chilly north sea along with hundreds of others.
