Still no date on refuelling

A much-criticised filling station, which has caused anger after its pumps have run dry, will be getting customer fuel in the ‘very near future’, the Gazette has been told – although no exact date has been given.

Last week, we reported how a spate of motorists had contacted us to complain about the state of the town’s newest petrol station, which has had a lack of fuel over the last few weeks.

Known as Alnwick Motorway Services, at Cawledge, the site is run by Northumberland Fuel Services Ltd.

Last week, director Paul Abbott said that he did not wish to comment as various transition arrangements were in hand.

And just two days ago, he said that discussions were still continuing but was sure the pumps would be back in action soon.

He said: “The petrol station is going through a transitional period.

“Discussions are on going and I should have some news by the end of the week.

“But we are open and we will be getting the customer fuel shortly, in the very near future, but as yet, I can’t give an exact date.”

The property is owned by Northumberland Estates, who built the site , but they are only the landlords and it is leased by Mr Abbott, who is responsible for running the station. Company BP does not run the site either.
