Residents celebrated the re-opening of a sports and recreation centre with an activity day.
The centre, at Vyner Park, was taken over by a sub-committee earlier this year and is now under control of Newton on the Moor and Swarland Parish Council.
Sports facilities and the Vyner Park Pavilion are now fully open to the public and a special celebration event was held to mark the occasion.
The official reopening, on Sunday, June 22, began with a 4.5km fun run around the village, Percy Wood caravan park and along the new multi-use track through the woods.
The adult’s run was won by Chris Graham and the shorter, children’s, run was won by Charlie Cookson.
Participants were also able to enjoy games of rounders and football and tried their hand at bowls and tennis.
Everyone was invited to make suggestions as to the future of the sports facilities with football, adult tennis lessons and a running club among the suggestions so far.
As well as enjoying sports and games, there was also an exhibition of the work done on the new multi-use track and the history of Swarland House.
While the house no longer exists, the new track follows the path of the back drive. Further work is planned for renovating the lake and uncovering more of the grounds of the house.
Prize-giving for the race winners will take place at the Newton on the Moor and Swarland Show on Saturday, August 30. Thanks were given to all the volunteer marshals who helped out on the day.
