Slimmers from across north Northumberland have signed up to shed pounds and raise cash for charity.
Members of the Slimming World groups in Alnwick, Amble, Felton and Widdrington are taking part in a sponsored slim in aid of HospiceCare North Northumberland.
The initiative, called Slim for Good, is taking place at the weight-loss groups across the country, with individual sessions choosing which charity will benefit.
Lorna Daniels, who runs three sessions in Alnwick and has lost three stone herself, said the Slim for Good campaign will give members an added incentive to achieve their weight-loss dreams.
She added: “New Year’s resolutions can often become a bit of a distant memory by late February and the motivation that you might have had at the start of January can begin to dip.
“If anyone’s feeling that way, I’m hoping getting sponsored to slim will give them the lift they need.
“We know that making healthy lifestyle changes to the way you eat and your activity levels makes a big difference to you, including improving your health and confidence, but it also impacts on your family and friends too as they enjoy the ‘new you’ and often get encouraged to become healthier themselves.
“Now, thanks to Slim for Good, members will also be able to benefit their wider local community by raising funds for HospiceCare North Northumberland. Their weight-loss will literally become HospiceCare’s gain.”
And as part of the campaign, members of Slimming World will also be on the catwalk at HospiceCare’s fashion show on Friday, March 14, keen to impress the audience with their weight loss.
And Lorna is inviting other people in the community to join the slimmers in their six-week fund-raising bid.
Rebecca Taylor, fund-raiser at HospiceCare North Northumberland, said: “We are thrilled that Slimming World members in Alnwick, Amble and Widdrington have chosen to support us.
“There is a great need for our Hospice At Home services in our local communities and monies raised will allow us to continue providing palliative care and support day or night, seven days a week.”
And as a Slimming World member, reporter Helen Millichamp is also taking part in the sponsored slim and will be writing a weekly online blog about her weight loss throughout the six-week campaign.
You will be able to read about her journey on the Gazette’s website at www.north umberlandgazette.co.uk
Anyone wanting to take part in the six-week Slim for Good campaign can do so any time. Sponsorship forms are available from the Slimming World groups.
