Dazzling dresses and stylish suits were the order of the day outside the gates of the Duchess’s Community High School in Alnwick last Friday evening for the annual Year 11 summer prom.

Held at St James’s Park in Newcastle, all 217 of that year group drove off in five different coaches at 6pm for what their co-head of year Miss Sweet described as ‘such a fantastic night!’

Upon arrival, Phototronics were there to provide individual photos, and then the students and staff were served up their ‘school meal cuisine’ – chicken, vegetables and gravy followed by sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce for desert. During the meal, one of the highlights of the evening was the magician who came around to each table individually,Later, in standard prom fashion, awards were given out after dinner. Chosen and voted on by the entire year group, every award brought its own personal touch, ranging from The Biggest Flirt, won by by Ellie Freeman and Jordan Turnbull, to The Most Likely to Become a Millionaire, claimed by Hannah Bell.

The renowned Prom Queen and Prom King titles were deservedly awarded to Annabelle Bltyhe and Jarod Lewis who, alongisde others, described their time as ‘a really great night!’

After a fabulous evening of doing the conga line and dancing, emotions soon kicked in. This prom marked the end of an era for some, as the end of Year 11 opens different doors for the 15 to 16-year-olds in the shape of college or apprenticeships.

Prom Queen Annabel said: “It was really lovely to have the whole year group all together for one last time.”
