SLIDESHOW - Shrove Tuesday Football

Waiting for Video...

Photographs of historic event

The weather was warm and sunny but thankfully the pastures below Alnwick Castle were still waterlogged meaning there was plenty of muddy action to take pictures of at the annual Shrove Tuesday Football match in Alnwick. No longer is the game started with the kicking of a Scotsman’s head but rather more sedately with the Duke of Northumberland thowing the ball off the Barbican before the procession down to the pastures.

Full details of the game in Thursday’s Gazette.
