Search continues for missing Northumberland woman

POLICE are continuing to appeal for help in tracing a missing Northumberland woman.

At 5.20pm on Sunday, February 19, police received a report expressing concern for the whereabouts of Monica Dixon.

Mrs Dixon is 84 and was last seen at Abbey Fields House, Hill Street, Corbridge, at around 1.30pm on Sunday.

She is described as being around 5ft 1ins tall, with shoulder length dark grey hair, blue eyes and glasses.

When she was last seen she was wearing brown trousers, a blue flowery shirt and a light blue jumper.

Teams of officers have been searching the Corbridge and surrounding areas and the police helicopter was called to help in the search on Sunday night.

Posters with Mrs Dixon’s picture on have been circulated throughout East Tynedale and Search and Rescue volunteers have been helping officers in searching for the pensioner.

Northumberland Superintendent Mick Paterson said: “We are extremely concerned for Mrs Dixon’s safety. It was extremely cold overnight and if she has spent the night outdoors then we need to find her as soon as possible.

“We have had teams of officers and search and rescue volunteers out overnight looking for her and the helicopter was over the Corbridge and surrounding areas in the early hours assisting with the search.

“We are speaking with local residents and working closely with Mrs Dixon’s family and are doing all we can to locate her.

“I’d appeal for anyone who may have seen her, or anyone matching her description, in the Corbridge or surrounding areas to contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone who has seen Mrs Dixon or who has any information as to her whereabouts is asked to contact police on 101.
