Roz can put her feet up at last

A COMMUNITY stalwart has been nominated for an award for her tireless efforts during the crisis.

Roz Tinlin, who runs The Haven bed and breakfast on Back Crofts, Rothbury, was put forward for a Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service community award for her dedication and hard work supporting others last week and also during September's floods.

She ran the emergency base set up at the Jubilee Hall and provided food and refreshments for the workers.

She also helped out at the night-time emergency rest centre at Dr Thomlinson Middle School until the early hours most nights.

Chief Fire Officer and director of community safety Brian Hesler said: "Roz has made a fantastic effort.

"She's been feeding a number of responders as well as gas engineers."

Northern Gas Networks' engineers were full of praise for Roz.

Chris Broad, first call operative, was one of five who stayed at her B&B.

He said: "On behalf of the company and all the lads who have been staying there I would like to say thanks to Roz. She has been really brilliant."

Steven Bridgett, county councillor for Rothbury, said: "Roz's contribution towards helping out especially in the recent gas crisis and in the floods has been invaluable.

"She is certainly one of these people who will help people no matter the situation."

At the end of their stay in the village, Barry Brightman, emergency officer for Northern Gas Networks, presented Roz with a bouquet of flowers as a thanks from the company.

A Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We will be putting forward Roz Tinlin for consideration for a Chief Fire Officer's Community Award as part of the annual Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service Awards. The ceremony is planned to be held in May this year."

During the floods Roz helped people find places to live when they were forced out of their homes.

She also put up five people in The Haven.
