Roads in Rothbury are to be resurfaced as part of major works in the village, last week’s parish council meeting heard.
County and parish councillor Steven Bridgett said the work would start today at the east end of the village.
The first phase will involve the stretch between the traffic island outside Whitton View estate and Bridge Street, with the roads closed between 9pm and 6am, with access for emergency vehicles only.
Roadworks will then move on to Bridge Street and, following that, Haw Hill and Church Street, around the Armstrong Cross and past the doctor’s surgery.
Extra curbs will be put along Church Street in front of the United Reformed Church.
Coun Bridgett added: “Northumbrian Water has been given absolutely every opportunity to replace the oldest pipes in Rothbury before the resurfacing, but have declined to do so as it says the pipes are in a good condition.
He added that as part of the work there is a restriction on any other works being carried out within the next two to five years, except in an emergency, when utility companies will have to repair the road fully.
