Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service is looking to recruit new on-call firefighters for its retained fire station in Wooler.
An open evening is being held at the South Road station on Thursday, February 20, from 7pm for anyone interested.
As with wholetime firefighters, retained firefighters are called upon to tackle a wide range of emergency situations, from tackling fires to dealing with chemical spillages, flooding incidents and road-traffic collisions.
The role also provides opportunities to learn a range of new skills from first-aid training to acquiring a large goods vehicle licence.
All that is required from a successful candidate is a contract of two hours per week for training and being able to attend call-outs and community safety work. Retained firefighters must also live no further than five to six minutes’ travel time from the station.
