Pupils and staff from Whittingham C of E First School commemorated D-Day by coming to school dressed in 1940s fashion on Friday.

The children learned about Operation Overlord – the code name for the Battle of Normandy.

In assembly, they gave thanks to all of those involved in the Normandy Landings and the sacrifices they made. Some of the other activities which the children participated in throughout the day included a parade, sharing family stories and memorabilia, listening to music and speeches of the time and making movies commemorating this historic day.

Some children had also produced a Second World War display.
