Railway station pledge from windfarm developers

The company behind the Belford Burn windfarm proposal has offered £500,000 for the village’s station project if their proposals get the go-ahead.

Energiekontor UK Ltd is proposing to develop a windfarm of up to nine turbines around 2.5km west of the centre of Belford. Each turbine would have a height to blade tip of no more than 100metres.

And their most recent project newsletter states: “Since we went public with the project we have been seeking suggestions from people on whether there are any local projects that could benefit from funding from the wind farm. One such project that has been highlighted to us is Belford Railway Station.

“We are happy to set out a commitment that, should the Belford Burn Wind Farm get the go-ahead, Energiekontor UK Ltd would provide up to £500,000 as a one-off contribution for Belford Railway Station.

“This contribution would be in addition to the community benefit fund.

“It is important to stress that any financial contributions that may be included as part of the project would not be considered as material planning considerations by Northumberland County Council at the point at which the Belford Burn Wind Farm planning application is determined.”
