A Northumberland village’s post office is in need of a new owner after it was put up for sale.

Seahouses Post Office, and the adjoining house, are up for sale through George F White in Alnwick with a guide price of £375,000.

David Glen, the current owner of the King Street property, is looking to retire.

“I have been doing this for 17 years and I would be delighted for someone to take it on,” he said.

The information provided by the estate agent describes the property as a ‘superior detached house occupying a large plot’ with a ‘village post office attached to main residence’.

But it adds that the house could be sold separately and that there is potential for bed and breakfast use.

The Post Office and retail unit is around 300 sq ft and includes a Post Office counter with security glazing and storage areas.

The property information states that the Post Office salary currently amounts to £27,500 per annum. ‘The retail shop sells stationery and cards providing a modest additional turnover with considerable potential,’ it adds.

The Seahouses facility is the last in the area following the closure of Beadnell’s post office in March last year. It was replaced by a mobile post service.

In 2008, North Sunderland and Bamburgh’s post offices were part of a number of nationwide closures by Post Office Ltd, which also saw services in Longframlington, North Broomhill, Milfield, Doddington and Netherton go the same way.
