Police warning after car break-in

Police are asking motorists in Alnwick not to leave valuables in their cars overnight.

Between 7.45pm on Thursday, October 25, and 7.20am on Friday, October 26, a car was broken into on Canongate in Alnwick.

A window was smashed and two handbags and a purse were stolen from inside.

Alnwick Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Truscott said: “Motorists must remove everything of value from their cars overnight.

“Thieves are looking for easy opportunities where valuables have been left out on show and where they can smash a window and be in and out in seconds.

“I’d urge everyone to help us stop this type of offence by making sure their cars are locked and secured overnight, that all valuables have been taken out of their cars and stored inside the home and also by reporting anyone hanging around parked cars or acting suspiciously in the street.”

To report suspicious behaviour, or to pass on any information into this theft, call police on the 101 non-emergency number.
