A free national poetry competion is offering anyone the chance to win £1,000 in cash.

From young to old, beginners to poetry perfectionists, all you need to do is write a poem about a town in Northumberland, or about someone from the area.

You can send up to three entries, with each being no longer than 25 lines (blank lines counted) and 160 words.

The closing date is December 31. Send poems to Local Poem, United Press Ltd, Admail 3735, London, EC1B 1JB.
