Planned roadworks on A1 in Northumberland during half-term this week

The Highways Agency is planning the following roadworks on the A1 in Northumberland this week.

Morpeth: There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. From today (Tuesday, May 31) to Friday (June 3), there will be a carriageway closure north and southbound, taking place between 8pm and 7am with a diversion in place. There will also be a 24-hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

Berwick: There will be a lane closure in place north and southbound for survey work. This will take place from today (Tuesday, May 31) to Friday, June 10, between 9am and 4pm.

In case you are travelling during school-holiday week, here are some roadworks around the area to look out for.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar: There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. Today (Tuesday, May 31) and tomorrow (Wednesday, June 1), the northbound entry slip road will be closed at Scotch Corner. Then on Thursday (June 2) and Friday (June 3), the carriageway under Scotch Corner interchange will be closed with traffic being diverted up and over the interchange. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead: Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. From today (Tuesday, May 31) to Friday (June 3), there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 70, and southbound between junctions 69 and 67. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by early summer 2016.

A66 Blands Corner to Blackwell, Darlington, County Durham: There will be a carriageway closure east and westbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Tuesday, June 7, between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. There will also be a 40mph speed restriction in place during the daytime.

A696 Woolsington Interchange, Newcastle: There will be a lane closure in place northbound for improvement work. This will take place until Friday, June 17, between 8am and 6pm.
